Seaside Chair

The Seaside chair was inspired by the timeless simplicity of George Nakashima’s furniture, combined with the aesthetics of both Japanese and Danish Modern design.

I decided to use exposed joinery to showcase the details of the construction. This not only serves a functional purpose, but also adds an intriguing visual appeal. I chose Danish paper cord weaving for the seat to incorporate my love of textiles as a fibre artist. I wanted this to add a bit of warmth, and a particular tactile experience. The clear oil finish is intended to showcase the unique patterns of the grain, highlighting the raw authenticity of natural materials.
